Diana Chavez

April 14, 1950 — June 19, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Diana Chavez, 73, of Wheat Ridge, Colorado. She was born in Avondale, Colorado on April 14, 1950, and arrived in Heavenly Paradise on June 19, 2023. She is preceded in death by her father, Joe V. Gomez, and her nephew Jesse B. Gomez. She is survived by her mother, Alice Gomez of Avondale, Colorado, her loving husband of 53 years, Leonard (Lenny) Chavez, daughters Marlene Chavez, Tammy Chavez (Bill Arnold) and son Brian Chavez, as well as three beautiful granddaughters, Brianna Chavez, Viviana Chavez-Lovato, and Kaitlyn Chavez. She is also survived by her brother Joe Gomez Jr., brother Rudy Gomez (Sandy Rojas), numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members as well as her precious grand-doggies Lola Sunshine and Lucky.

Diana wore many hats throughout her lifetime and career, but she found her true passion in community service 30 years ago when she began her involvement in a non-profit organization that supported victims of domestic violence. After serving as Executive Director of Latina Safehouse for several years she started her own non-profit organization, Las Adelitas Living the Arts.

Diana is a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe church in Denver and an active member of Las Hermanas.  She loved to travel and traveled to places such as Ireland, Jerusalem, France, Italy, Spain, Greece and extensively throughout Mexico. Diana was an avid reader and loved watching plays at Su Teatro. She spent many hours volunteering for various local organizations and politicians. She enjoyed learning all she could about her culture and made Puerto Vallarta her second home. Even with all of this, her most favorite thing in life was when her family was together for holidays or any celebration singing and dancing, which is what she loved to do.

Diana was a devoted mother who supported her children in everything they did in life. She was everyone’s biggest cheerleader. This is not a goodbye, it is an “hasta luego” to an amazing and beautiful woman.
