Joseph “Sharpie“ Armando Cordova, age 78 of Denver Colorado passed away on March 8, 2023 with his family by his side.
Born in Alamosa Colorado on March 16, 1944 to Elvira “Florence” Cordova and Gerardo “Armando” Cordova, Sharpy was the third oldest of six children.
He graduated from Saint Joseph high school, Denver, Colorado in 1962. After graduating he enlisted and went on to serve in the US Marine Corps infantry from 1968 to 1971, and proudly earned the Purple Heart.
Returning to Denver after his service, Sharpy began his professional career with the United States, Postal Service as a postal clerk, and retired after 41 years of service.
Sharpy is survived by his wife of 50 years Margaret Ruiz de Cordova, and five children: Luis Cordova, Ruben Barraza, Jesus Barraza, Ricardo “Rick“ Cordova, Raquel Cordova and his sister, Louise Casini. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law‘s, son-in-law, and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Sharpy is proceeded in death by his parents, Florence and Gerardo Cordova siblings. Linda Antonis, Tom Cordova, Rick Cordova and Barbara Cordova. Son, Tony Cordova, grandson, Luis “Jr” Zael Gutierrez, grand daughter, Jessica Barraza, niece Carrie Gonzales, nephew Thomas Cordova, and great nephew Andres Aguirre.
Whether you knew him by Sharpy, Armando or Joseph, he would treat everyone with open arms. He may have made a joke about you or asked you where you were from to make a connection with you, and he would always remember you even through his illnesses. A hero is born among a hundred, a wise man is found among a thousand, but an accomplished one might not be found even among a hundred thousand men.
