Billy Mondragon

Billy Joe Mondragon 77 passed away unexpectedly on April 22, 2023 in Wheatridge, Colorado after an acute illness and brief hospitalization. Billy was born on April 5, 1946 to Bill and Ruth Mondragon. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and younger sister Marlene Prieto and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who surely opened the gates of heaven for him.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Irene Mondragon of 56 years, oldest daughter Desiree Flores (Carlos), son Benjamin Mondragon and youngest daughter Jenna Mondragon (Ronnie Bargas). Billy is also survived by grandchildren Benaiah Bargas, Dax Flores, Hezekiah Bargas, Luke Flores, Ronnie Bargas, Johnny Bargas and Manuel Bargas.

He was born on April 5, 1946 in Center, Colorado, however, he was raised in Denver, Colorado where lived in the Westwood neighborhood his whole life. Billy was a proud Army Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. He married his high school sweetheart Irene Mondragon (Salazar) on September 23, 1966 before he went on deployment to Vietnam. They bought a house together in 1970 and still reside there to this day. Billy retired from Xcel Energy as a storekeeper after 37 years in 2008.

Billy was a proud and hardworking family man, after retirement he stayed extremely busy and was very supportive and active in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. He loved spending time with his kids and hanging out with his grandchildren and family. Grandpa Billy was always picking his grandchildren up from school and practice and dropping them off for work etc. Billy was always encouraging his children and grandchildren he was their guiding light.

Billy was a beloved and devoted husband, dearest father, dear grandfather, awesome brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Of his many fine traits, he was legendary for his generosity and his intelligence, quick wit, charm, humor, and kindhearted aid to friends and family delivered with an unforgettable grin and twinkle in his eye! He had many names, Billy, Bill, Dad and his favorite...Grandpa. He lived life to the fullest and believed that life was too short to ever pass up a good meal. He has left a huge gaping hole in every life he touched here on earth. He is deeply missed, to a depth that cannot adequately be conveyed with words.

You lived a good life. We know you are in paradise watching over us. “Treasured in my heart you’ll stay, until we meet again someday.” May you rest in eternal peace.
