When Death Occurs

When a loved one passes, there are some things you’ll need to do before calling the funeral home.
Primero, call the proper authorities.
- If your loved one dies in a hospital, hospice or nursing home, the staff there will contact you and call the authorities themselves.If the death occurs somewhere else, such as home or at their place of work, you will need to call emergency medical personnel or your loved one’s doctor so they can record the cause of death.
- If no one is present at the time of death, call the police first.

A member of our staff will assist you and transfer your loved one into our care. When it is convenient for you, we will meet with you and discuss final arrangements and how you and your family would like to honor your loved one.
To prepare for this first meeting, you may bring items such as photographs of your loved one, clothing to dress them in, documents such as insurance papers and Veteran’s discharge papers (DD-214), and, of course, members of your family to help with the planning process.
